Zablace is situated along the coast, 8km south of Sibenik. It was first mentioned in 1432 as the medieval Zablace was known for its no rx cialis salt works from which today only names remained: Velika jezera (Big lakes) and Mala solina (Small salt works). This area is rich in therapeutic mud used in healing the rheumatisms.
During the Turkish invasions into this area, Zablace was twice completely destroyed, in 1510 and 1537. Because of that, the main occupation of the inhabitants - the salt production ceased production. When the Turks retreated, the inhabitants of Zablace restore their village and start with fishing, cattle breeding and agriculture. Many inhabitants emigrated to America. Nowadays, besides the traditional occupations, tourism becomes very important part of the economy of Zablace.
Unusual but pleasant mixture of the old fishermen houses and luxurious villas built by the descendants of the American emigrants make Zablace unique. A quiet coastal village offers accomodation in private rooms, apartments and in camping site situated in a thick pine forest. A spacious concrete beach receives many sun bathers especially from Sibenik as the open sea is very favourable for wind surfing and the discoteque offers the entertainment till small hours. Other various events are organised in nearby Hotel resort Solaris and in Sibenik which make Zablace one of quality touristic destinations.
The oldest Croatian town on the Adriatic which is unique because of its extraordinary location in a picturesque and wide bay at the mouth of the River Krka. It lies on the slopes of the hills in the northern part of the bay, surrounded by three fortresses: St.Michael's, St.John's and Subicevac. In the old part of the town the houses are made of stone and closely built and the streets are narrow and winding with lots of steps and vaults. Little squares and numerous cultural and historical monuments testify the rich history of the town.
It was first mentioned in 1066 in a document issued by the Croatian king Petar Kresimir IV that's why it is sometimes mentioned as Kresimir's town. From the 12th ct. to the 15th ct. the town successfully resisted the repeated attacks of the Venetians but when in 1409 the King Ladislav of Neaples sold Dalmatia to the Venetians, Sibenik had to subdue.
Vodice has been praised by thousands of tourists for its tourist acievements. It is one of the best known tourist destinations on the Adriatic not only because it can accommodate a large number of tourists but for its tourist facilities and entertainment offered. It is 12km northeast from Sibenik, situated along the coast in a large bay. It is well connected to other centres by the Adriatic tourist road and there are numerous ferry lines, too.
It was first mentioned in 1402 although it was founded already in the Roman times as Arausa. It's name derives from the word meaning water sources which supplied the whole area. The defense walls from the times of the Turks with the Coric tower testify the past times. Other similar monuments are St.Cross' church on the former graveyard, built in 1421 and the parish church in the town centre built in 1746. On the nearby hill Okit during the Turkish invasions, refugees founded a settlement and on its top the chapel Lady of Mercy was built in 1660.
There are several theories about the origin of the name of this island that was often called golden island, green or coral island. It is one of the islands in Sibenik archipelago that is nearest to the mainland - about 1 nautical mile far from it.
First written document dates from 1386 but Zlarin is older than that as the findings from the Stone Age and the Roman times prove. First inhabitants came to the island in the 13th ct. and the next to come were refugees who fled in front of the Turks looking for safety on this island.
Among the historic monuments, the oldest one is the Gothic church Our Lady of Raselj from the 15th ct. In 1740 on the remnants of the old church a new one in baroque style was built. St.Rock's chapel and St.Simon's chapel were built during the 17th ct.
Former inhabitants were farmers and fishermen but they will be remembered as coral divers. Hunting and processing of coral were known already in the 15th ct. and it brought to Zlarin economic prosperity that lasted till the 20th ct. when this industry ceased to be sucessful and many inhabitants had to emigrate. In spite of everything, event today on the island there is a coral workshop where coral is worked manually and the hand made jewels are sold.
The inhabitants of Zlarin are mainly employed in Sibenik industry but they still pursue all the traditional occupations among which the tourism, too. The unspoilt nature, thick pine forests , beaches of various types and numerous hidden bays attract many tourists. Enjoying the sun and crystal clear sea many local and foreign visitors spend here ideal holiday and especially yachtsmen as they can find a safe berth in well protected harbour of Zlarin. The accomodation can be found in a hotel and in the private rooms and apartments. There are also few restaurants where you can taste local specialities but because of frequent ship lines that connect Zlarin with Sibenik, whenever you wish you can drop in to Sibenik, Prvic or Vodice. And finally, one curiosity! Do you know who invented Maglite torches used all over the world (even by the American police)? Mr. Ante Maglica born in Zlarin! He emigrated in America and since then has patented more than no rx cialis hundred inventions and is now donating some to his native island - Zlarin.
